The Opportunity Following an internal promotion, this is a rare opportunity to lead one of New Zealand's most recognised tourism attractions through an exciting next phase.
Skyline Rotorua is an established and successful multi-million-dollar tourism business, welcoming hundreds of thousands of guests each year and employing a large, diverse and highly seasonal team.
With significant long-term investment and development planned for the site, Skyline is looking for an exceptional General Manager to bring fresh thinking, strong commercial leadership and a genuine ability to develop people. While major development projects are led through Skyline's specialist support functions, this role plays a critical part in ensuring operational readiness, stakeholder alignment and the successful integration of future attractions and experiences into the Rotorua business.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you'll take overall responsibility for the performance and direction of the Rotorua business, working alongside an experienced leadership team and the wider Skyline Group. This role offers genuine autonomy and accountability, balanced with access to enterprise support teams and the ability to influence and collaborate across the wider business.
Success will come through building strong relationships, leading through others and harnessing the collective capability of the Group to achieve exceptional outcomes.
What You'll Lead - Overall commercial and operational performance of the Rotorua business
- Strong collaboration across the wider Skyline Group, leveraging enterprise expertise and support functions to deliver the best outcomes for Rotorua
- Development of a high-performing, empowered leadership team
- Revenue growth, financial performance, productivity and cost management
- Operational readiness and successful integration of future attractions and developments
- A culture of safety, wellbeing and accountability
- Exceptional guest experiences across a diverse tourism operation
- Continuous improvement and innovation across the business
- Strong partnerships across tourism, community, iwi and regional stakeholders
- A culture where people are developed, trusted and encouraged to take ownership
What We're Looking For We're open-minded about where you've built your career.
You'll be a collaborative and commercially astute leader who understands how to operate effectively within a broader enterprise environment. You know when to lead independently, when to leverage specialist expertise and how to bring people together behind a common objective. Experience leading through influence, building cross-functional partnerships and navigating complex stakeholder environments will be highly valued.
You may come from tourism, attractions, hospitality, hotels, leisure or another complex customer-facing environment. You don't need to know every technical aspect of the operation from day one.
What matters is that you've led at scale. You'll have experience leading a large team and complex business, significant commercial and P&L responsibility, and a track record of improving performance and developing people.
We're particularly interested in leaders who are commercially sharp, collaborative and transformational: someone who can set the direction, empower good people to deliver, build strong external relationships and bring energy to the business.
And because this is Skyline, personality matters. We're looking for someone who takes performance seriously without taking themselves too seriously. A visible commitment to health, safety and wellbeing, combined with the ability to build high-performing teams and deliver exceptional guest experiences, will be fundamental to your success.
You'll be someone who can connect with people, enjoy the environment you're working in and embody Skyline's values:
We’re Brave, We Care and We Do. Why Skyline? Skyline Rotorua has enormous potential.
You'll join an iconic New Zealand business with a growing international footprint, a strong existing operation and significant investment planned for the years ahead.
For the right leader, the opportunity doesn't necessarily stop in Rotorua. Skyline's continued international growth creates genuine potential for future career opportunities across the Group.
If you're looking for a GM role where you can genuinely influence what comes next, we'd love to hear from you. -
