Job Search Advice

Many of the RWA team are experienced IT professionals themselves and understand exactly what it’s like to be looking for work in New Zealand’s tech industry. From interview advice to CV writing tips, we’re here to help you secure that dream job.

Avoiding Common Interview and CV Mistakes – Recruiter Tips

Welcome to first episode of our Recruiter Tips series. In this episode, Senior Recruitment Specialist, Danielle Kelly, outlines the mistakes candidates commonly make on their CV’s and in the interview process, and she highlights how candidates can benefit from working with a specialist Recruiter.

Common CV Mistakes

Danielle suggests that the most common mistake candidates make is poor spelling and grammar on their CV, which can lead to an instant rejection. She also warns against falling into the trap of having a boring CV. Candidates that use eye-catching imagery, a range of colours and detail are often more noticed by potential employers compared to those that opt for a typical CV layout.

Common Interview Mistakes

The most common interview mistakes made by candidates are often the most basic ones. Danielle says that candidates who make little eye contact can often unsettle the interviewer, and that many candidates don’t ask enough questions at the end of the interview. It’s vital that candidates do research on the organisation prior to the interview and use the opportunity to ask pertinent questions to demonstrate this research.

Why work with RWA?

Job searching can be a tough, high-stress situation for any candidate. Danielle suggests that working with a specialist recruitment agency, such as RWA, makes the process significantly easier for the candidate. Recruiters can give you advice on the best move for you and have the networks to get your CV to the right organisations, doing so discretely.
